Welcome to my website! I’m a student, intern, and photographer enthusiastic about making great images.
Hi there!
My name’s Alex and I’m a student, intern, and photographer. I recently graduated from Rice University in Houston, Texas having majored in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. I’m headed to the University of Oxford in fall 2018 to pursue a master’s degree in Data Science.
My interest in photography began when I was in high school after I picked up my first camera – a $20 medium format film camera called a Holga. I fell in love with the dreamlike, grainy images the Holga produced, revealed only after many painstaking hours in darkrooms working with caustic chemicals.
Later I transitioned to digital photography when I received a used Canon Rebel DSLR as a birthday present. In high school courses on photography, I learned the basics of composition and framing as well as how to use photo editing software like Photoshop and Lightroom.
Living near New York City, I had the privilege of training at the school of the International Center of Photography in Midtown, Manhattan, where I studied documentary photography with some of the best photojournalists in the United States.
During a gap year before college, I traveled to South Africa to work as an intern for Africa Media, where I photographed wildlife across the Western Cape. Later that year, to earn extra money, I went on to work as an assistant wedding photographer for a boutique studio in Montclair, New Jersey during the summer before I entered college.
Lastly, at Rice University, I founded Project 120, a non-profit dedicated to providing pro bono photography and other media services to some of the largest cultural, charitable, and educational causes and organizations in Houston, Texas. I served as President of Project 120 until I graduated in 2018.
I work to provide affordable photography for events, portraits, wildlife, and more as I save money to fund my graduate studies. I’m also proud to offer my services pro bono for organizations that represent charitable causes. Check out a few of my images elsewhere on this site, and get in touch using the contact form here. I look forward to hearing from you!
Yours,
-Alex
